Packing VS. Unpacking....
I had decided to write a little something about the competition between and what do I think is better: Packing or Unpacking? When I came to the conclusion that I probably hate both with the same fiery passion so the competition was negated. Kaput. Cancelled out. Irrelevant....
I can tell you why I HATE them, but definitely will not be able to give a lighter side to either one.
Packing...
First... (if you're cheap like me and don't feel like spending hundreds of $$$ on boxes...) you must find boxes. This might mean dumpster diving, walking into a well known retail establishment and looking like a fool... or simply snagging them from some one who has just recently moved OR craigslist, freecycle... OR using the old empty diaper and wipies boxes from your two-year old.
Secondly... you must find a way to get said boxes into your car. And unless you are driving mainly anything but an SUV you are basically in for a great game of Tetris.
Third... Tape and markers. Good tape is not that easy to find.
Fourth... Do NOT pack boxes too heavy. Even if your husband/boyfriend/roommate swears up and down that you will not have to lift a finger to move them. You will and you will bitch the entire time something along the lines of "what was I THINKING?" You know, putting ALL the DvDs and Tapes in one box to save space...?
Fifth... Whether or not you are instructed to not sort while you pack... DO IT. It will save you time when you UNpack and please label boxes. Even if they are dumped into the wrong room, you know where they should go. It's a lot better than unpacking trash and spending six days in one room when you could have solved the problem in one before you left.
Six... Procrastination can work to your advantage. Although, see above if you consider this one because more than likely what will happen is this: You get tired of wrapping up glass and having ink hands, marking, taping, etc., etc., what is going to happen is your "other" will simply start throwing crap in boxes... and quickly without your knowing. You will end up with a multitude of "junk" boxes which you will be spending six days unpacking going from room to room OR you will end up wasting boxes on packed up trash... such as... soda cans you THOUGHT were completely empty going in with birth certificates and/or other important papers. Explain that when you go to the SS office.....
Well, Seven... and I must stop here because it's two fifteen in the morning and I am finally tired after eating my popcorn dipped in nacho cheese... yes I said it.
Seven... My recommendations for moving is do it as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE... because coming from some one who has moved several times in one to two years, it is not pleasant. For more infomation, refer to the timeline below. And have a wonderful day. I will post for Unpacking later. :D
